VERY!!!

For many reasons including general drivability and can even cause premature tire wear.

Road Force balancing is my preferred method.

You can have a new wheel and tire and it will most likely still be out of balance.

not super important, but it depends entirely how out of whack the wheel is to begin with.

But no real safety reason? or maybe for gas mileage?

heck yeah safety reasons. You can cause premature wear to suspension components with that constant vibration. Again, irregular tire wear is never good. A shaky steering wheel is not fun either if it is that bad. Even the smallest pulse can mess things up early, vital components like wheel bearings, bushings, links, etc. Heck, even drive shafts and engine pullies have little weights on them. At higher speeds, you don't want to take a chance

I thought we were talking about how much wheels weigh for a minute.

Dropping unsprung and rotational mass is always good.

its important, if you dont have balanced wheels your steering wheel will wobble like stupid above 70kph. It is very annoying.

I should add, This is why F1 drivers avoid graining, because they stick to the tire causing uneven weight, and they start to feel vibrations on the steering wheel, imagine at over 300kph vibrations on the wheel intensify.
Also if they lock up the tyres a good distance, they will feel unbalanced tyres.
